Paris Walking Tour : Le Marais and Jewish District

Today, this district is the realm of fashion and elegant residential area in the heart of old Paris.

From the late Middle Ages, kings and noblemen built there numerous splendid mansions, still visible today.

A restauration program gave back to these monuments the original style and elegance.

We walk among the testimony of the french Classicism, with a special stop in the Place des Vosges, the oldest royal square in Paris with magnificent brick and stone architecture.

We discover several mansions as the Hôtel de Sully or Hôtel de Carnavalet (housing a great museum about Paris History), and we enter the barock church of the Society of Jesus , today parish church of the area, but once the theater of splendid religious services.

We also stroll across the famous jewish neighbourhood with its traditional stores and shops, enjoying in the rue Pavée the elegant « art nouveau » architecture of the synagogue.
